September 11th remembered

Today is bitter-sweet for me.  This whole week the media has been reflecting on the tragic events that happened in 2001.  It is now the 10th anniversary and I still cry and remain speechless when they replay the footage of the planes crashing into the World Trade Center.  I have a hard time taking in everything that happened that day and since that day.  We lost a family friend who worked in one of the Towers and his family still mourns.  I am thankful that my family is safe and that we have so many people willing to fight for our freedom.  Something we can not take for granted.
It is my son's birthday today.  I try to explain to him that it wasn't always a bad day to have a birthday.  I try to seperate the events as best as I can.  I go over his birth story with him and try to explain how very special he made that day for me.  I hope I have succeeded in making his day a happy one even though the tragic events of terrorism on our country remain on my mind.  Happy Birthday my sweet son!

My heart goes out to your friend's family.

Happy Birthday to your son.

Little ones can bring such comfort during the worst times. I was holding my middle guy - only 19 days old - while his older brother - 18 1/2 mths - slept nearby. I held them extra close on that day ten years ago.

Happy Birthday to your son, I am sad about today also I will never forget that day.
My heart still aches for all the damage that was done to our country and the families and friends that were touched by this tragedy.

Happy birthday to your son.

My country lost 3 lives, all at work in different offices in either one of the two towers with many witnessing the sad day.

Hope your son enjoyed his Birthday, it must be hard for him to understand.

11th Sept 2002 was my son's due date but of course he had to be late and was born on the 23rd.

I was actually in New York on the 9th Sept 2001, only 2 days before the attack, and it always seems weird looking at my photos and thinking they are some of the last pics of the NY skyline as it was.

I hope that your son had a wonderful birthday. I hope he always enjoys the goodness of the day even though it was a sad day in history.

Tragedy brought a great deal more of love and unity on that day than any other. The love and the unity of humanity that was felt on that day surely overcame the hatred directed toward us on that day.

For that and more.... Happy belated birthday!

Sorry that you lost friends. We did too, and they will always be missed.

I hope your son had a wonderful birthday. My husband also shares the same birthday. There will always be a sadness about that date, but we try to also celebrate the life that is so precious.
